History and team
Our beginnings
Founded in 1943 by Santos J. Carelli, our winery was born from the dream of a man with a passion for winemaking and for the land of Mendoza. Since then, the winery has grown and evolved, always maintaining the family business spirit that Santos imprinted from the very first day. Today, with the fourth generation of the family at the helm, we continue to cultivate the same passion that has accompanied us for more than 80 years.
Our story begins when Santos acquired a winery whose main building had been built in 1890, a building that already had more than half a century of history in winemaking.
Throughout our history, the winery has undergone several remodellings that have marked important milestones in its evolution. In 1970, Enrique, Santos' first-born son, decided to undertake an ambitious renovation that included the construction of a new concrete building. This enlargement significantly increased the winery's capacity, adding more tanks and modernising the infrastructure to adapt to the new times.
The 1980s was another turning point in the evolution of our winery. At this time, we acquired Finca Libertad, one of our largest estates, which allowed us to further expand our production. At the same time, state-of-the-art Italian and French technologies for pressing and crushing were incorporated, raising the quality of our wines to levels never before achieved.
In 1990, another major refurbishment was carried out with the expansion of the laboratory area. Equipped with new oenological technologies, this space was dedicated to the continuous improvement of the quality of our wines, refining every detail of the winemaking process to achieve their full potential. The year 2000 brought more significant changes: the concrete basins of the original building, built in 1890, were coated with an epoxy coating to ensure maximum hygiene and product safety, while state-of-the-art Italian presses and stainless steel tanks were added to further improve our production capacity and the quality of the wine.
In 2010, the winery underwent an additional refurbishment to include a state-of-the-art GAI fractionation and dressing line, as well as a refrigerated storage room to keep our fractionated pallets at the ideal temperature. With this modernisation, we integrated every stage of the production process, from vineyard to bottle, with in-house resources and expertise. Finally, in 2015, stainless steel tanks were added for cold work, further perfecting our ability to produce high quality wines with precise temperature control during all stages of production.
Throughout each of these moments, the essence of the winery has remained intact: a family business, rooted in the land and in history, where each generation brings its vision and passion. Today, under the leadership of the fourth generation, we continue the legacy of Santos J. Carelli, working with the same love and dedication that he started more than 80 years ago. We are proud to be a winery certified under BPM (IRAM) quality standards, with ORGANIC (LETIS) and SUSTAINABILITY (IRAM-BdA) certifications, reflecting our commitment to excellence and respect for our environment.
The history of our winery is, in short, the history of a family that, generation after generation, has been able to adapt, innovate and grow, without losing sight of the most important thing: the passion for making great wines that reflect the unique character of our land.

Our Team: The Soul and Science Behind Every Wine
At Bodega Carelli, we know that the greatness of our wines comes not only from our vineyards, but also from the talent and passion of the people who make up our team. From the cultivation of the vines to the creation of each bottle, our team is the heart and science that brings our winery to life.
In the vineyard, our workers are dedicated to caring for each plant with care, guiding its growth through the seasons with traditional techniques and a deep knowledge of the land. Their expertise in pruning, maintenance and harvesting ensures that each grape reaches its maximum expression, ready to become an exceptional wine.
But the journey of our grapes does not end in the vineyard. Once in the winery, the protagonist role passes into the hands of our winemaking team, who combine science, art and tradition to transform the raw material into unique wines. With meticulous attention to every detail of the fermentation, ageing and bottling process, our winemakers bring out the essence of our land in every glass. They experiment, innovate and perfect, always in search of excellence.
Every bottle of wine we produce is a reflection of the collaborative effort between those who work under the sun in the vineyard and those in the winery who master the art of winemaking. For us, the team is not only an essential part of our winery, but also the driving force behind our drive to continue creating wines that tell the story of our land and the people who care for it.
